today the Moodle Playpen has had a huge refurbish and now has a shiny new shell. There may be a few bugs while I fine-tune, so please bear with me.

TinyMCE3 now the default editor in Playpen
by Julian Ridden - Friday, 25 January 2008, 11:25 AM
As of today you will now find that the default editor in The Playpen has changed from the standard HTMLArea to a new TinyMCE3 editor. This has been thanks to the hard work of Glen Davies.
There are many advantages to using the new editor. The largest being that I am using this editor to create this post from a Mac using Safari! Glen has also changed the file manager in the editor as well.
These new filters give moodle the ability to dynamiclly embedd all kinds of new media into Moodle pages. From YouTube and Google video's to mindmaps and auto-syntaxed code to interactive geometrical challenges and 3d chemical models.
This is an optional course format. It changes the layout and operations of the main center column of a Moodle course. Inside a course, you can select the format of a course by clicking on Admin >> Course Settings. Typically, Topics format or Weekly format is used. This format is like Topics format, except that each section of a course can be "packaged" separately. It has a separate directory and it can be backed up separately with all resources and activities together. The import function allows a teacher to share and move the section (project) anywhere on the site. Fast resource creation and bulk media file upload are also possible. Tested only on Moodle vers. 1.9.
The shared activities system adds the facility for any Moodle user (e.g. students) to create their
own shared activities which they can invite a list of other people to
join. When they invite people, those people receive an email with a link to the activity.
For
example this system could be useful if users meet on a course and want
to arrange social events between themselves, or to stay in touch after
the course ends.
An enhanced version of the weekly course format. Key features:
You can combine, rename, and generally configure weeks.
(E.g. group together 2 weeks, call it 'Easter break'; or group together
6 weeks, call it 'Block 2'.)
Integrates Moodle calendar events into the main display.
Students can use checkboxes to mark their progress by ticking activities and events.
This course highlights advanced code not available in the standard Moodle download. This is from code contributed by developers from the global community.
This course demonstrates the Portfolio module, also known as SPDC Portfolio made by Matt Oquist. The great thing about this module is that Matt has agreed to create an importer to the standard Moodle Portfolio tool when it finally materialises.
A repositry for totally free resourses available for sharing. My intention is to automate science homework in Secondary School I work in (All Saints , Mansfield, UK) so I don't have to mark any routine stuff.
I have a collection of 90 plus hot potatoes (Science) That I WOULD BE HAPPY TO SHARE as a starter for any one elses school Moodle. They are mainly for age 11-14, but include several for age 14-16
All source and image files add up to about 60 MB
It would also (on request) be possible for me to back up each complete year group course as a backup file for y7 / y8 /y9. This would give the course structure including the use of groups for each class within a year group (We have 8 classes per year group) These groups prevent each class seeing each others wiki's or forums.
This sandbox is where I plan to experiment with the features of Moddle that might make it an excellent school portal site. I will be trying to set up a course, install a calendar system, experiment with user and permissions and how the css can be modified to change the look and feel of the site.
My institution is considering moving to Moodle and I would like a place to explore features, show ideas to colleagues, and learn more about the system.
We currently run blackboard community system and as head of learning resources I am championing a switch to blackboard. I have downloaded a version on my own laptop but my support team are having problems with the development server and I could really use a sandpit to help me show colleagues what moodle and do. Apologies if this is the wrong place to request this or if you do not create sandpit for this purpose.
This course illustrates how to use Moodle to create interactive courseware and performance based assessments that support e-portfolio reporting requirements.
This course will explore various perspectives on online interactive task design including the mapping of effective pedagogies onto asynchronous computing tools.
This is a sample course built in v.1.9 to test/try out the differences between it and 1.8. Especially the new formats and the great plugins that have been uploaded to this site.
